Cancer is one of the leading diseases found today. However, with the advancement of medical science, more and more people are surviving cancer and going on to lead normal, happy, productive lives. Cancer survivors will still have medical expenses, though, even if there is no reoccurrence of the cancer. Everyone has medical expenses throughout their lives and cancer survivors are no exception. The problem, though, is finding good health insurance after cancer. Because there was a serious pre existing condition, most insurance companies find the cancer patient too high a risk to insure. Therefore, health insurance after cancer can be difficult to find which leaves many survivors paying exorbitant out of pocket expenses for necessary care.

Because many survivors are desperate to obtain good health insurance after cancer, this has unfortunately caused many unscrupulous businesses to crop up claiming affordable health insurance after cancer. However, you need to be very careful about investing in this especially if it is found in an advertisement or on the Internet from a company you have never heard of before. If you fall victim to one of these scams, you are liable to pay monthly, quarterly or annual premiums and when it comes time to file a claim, find you are not covered and are liable for out of pocket expenses.
Many states now also offer health risk pools. This is a way for people to obtain health insurance after cancer. The risk pools are specifically designed to cater to those who are otherwise uninsurable, mostly due to pre existing conditions such as cancer. If you have been denied medical insurance benefits and are in a high risk category, check with your state to see if a risk pool is available. At present, most states have them. There are requirements for eligibility and you will have to pay premiums but you are more liable to get coverage for health insurance after cancer with these programs than from other insurance options.

I have had treatment for cancer and have been in remission for 3 years and need to find coverage. What are my options? Will be able to get health insurance?
It’s possible, but difficult. Insurance companies have a certain waiting period (in remission)for different types of cancer. Usually very large employers can push these cases through with no problem. You might have to check with your State Insurance Commissioner, as well, to see if they know of a company that will accept you. Our entire medical system is all screwed up because the White House and Congress are more interested in being the police force for the entire world. The amount of money that they have thrown away in Iraq could have paid for medical insurance for every American, many times over!
I just wanted to share this. When my wife was 26, she developed cancer and was told that the prognosis was not good. By some miracle, after treatment and surgery, she fully recovered. She worked for a large employer and was covered by medical insurance, so we didn’t have the problems so many others have.
However, since that time, I have spoken with many other individuals with a similar problem, and several of them literally had to file bankruptcy because their medical insurance couldn’t be carried forward. It’s deplorable that a country as wealthy as we are permits this to go on. It’s time for MAJOR REFORM!
In my opinion, insurance companies are common prostitutes, and congress is full of self serving egomaniacs more interested in the “pork” they can get! They couldn’t care less about the American people, at least not until election time rolls around.
Having studied your country and its healthcare system for my doctorate, I have to agree. Even though the USA pays more for health care, the quality is not as good as the UK.
I am employed in the UK system, and even though we have our own share of problems, life expectancy is higher here and infant mortality is lower.
This may be difficult to comprehend, but newborns die in the US that would have had a higher chance of survival if they were born in the UK.
As far as political egos, I agree as well. We just had one leave office who was the worst. His first name is Tony.
I hope this kind of problem will be fixed..best regards form HCF Australia.

It’s terrible that cancer survivors are denied health insurance, leaving them to the mercy of these equally sociopathic scammers. The whole system is appallingly callous.
